It is hard to see how this paper can be interpreted as providing support for the treatment of Schedonorus and Lolium as separate genera].

This is based on the assumption that cladistic analysis of one bit of DNA gives an accurate protrayal of the the phylogeny of the species involved. Classifications based on a single character, no matter how the data for that character are analysed, are artificial. It may be true that the more traditional characters exhibit extensive homoplasy, but this paper should only be regarded as a single indication that they may do so, not developing a strong case for such a conclusion].
